Community-oriented policing guidelines assist United Nations police officers deployed as advisers, mentors, and trainers in United Nations peace operations and to further assist in the reform, restructuring and rebuilding of the host-state police and other law enforcement agencies.
A focus in community-oriented policing helps enhance the trust of the public in the police and other law enforcement agencies. Community-oriented policing not only strengthens the bond between police and the community but also enhances the public confidence and community cooperation and the effectiveness and efficiency of police and other law enforcement agencies to protect life, properties and human rights.
The guidances on community-oriented policing will help United Nations police and other actors engaged in international policing to use a more consistent and standardized approach.
